It All Started with Rabbits in His Yard

It was bedtime-story time, and S.D. Smith's young daughter was expecting a tale. Thus began a family saga that grew as the family grew, and then outgrew the family until it was being published and read all over the world. All because Smith tapped into an audacious epic of courage and hope that echoed the Great Story we all want to be a part of.

“What my daughter and I didn’t know that first day . . . was that hundreds of thousands of children would one day share our little adventure,” Smith writes on his website. “We couldn’t have known then that a surprising adventure awaited us as well, an adventure in hospitality, sharing our stories with families around the world.”

S.D. Smith is the author of The Green Ember Series, a bestselling middle-grade adventure saga. The Green Ember has reached hundreds of thousands of readers across the globe who are hungry for new stories with an old soul. It even spent time as the number one bestselling audiobook in the world on Audible.

Meet Smith in Colorado Springs

When he’s not writing adventurous tales of #RabbitsWithSwords in his West Virginia writing shed, dubbed The Forge, Smith loves to speak to audiences about storytelling, imagination, and seeing yourself as a character in the Story.

Smith will be doing just that September 23, 2021, in Colorado Springs. The talk, scheduled for 7 p.m., will be on "Why I’m a Green Writer: A Storyteller’s Audacious Invitation."
