Anselm Society news for 2023: Giving the Imagination Redeemed Conference a pause; focusing on building community

The Anselm Society started in 2013 with a small ecumenical group of people who believed a renaissance of the Christian imagination was both possible and badly needed. As we're heading into our tenth year we still believe that. And we are surrounded by a wonderful community of folks who have joined us on the journey.

And what a journey! We started with some lectures and created the Anselm Society Arts Guild. We launched the Imagination Redeemed Conference—last fall was our sixth one! Creative social events throughout the years, like our St. Patrick's Day Pub Nights, built relationships. Throw in the Believe to See and Imagination Redeemed podcasts, the Anselm Society Book Club, and a soon-to-be-published book (watch for an announcement!), and it's obvious that the Society has been blessed and busy!

As we look at our tenth-anniversary year, though, the Anselm leadership has decided to take a temporary pause on that busy-ness. As you can imagine, putting on events is hard work for our all-volunteer staff. It’s also a challenge to make the popular IR conference end up in the black while keeping it affordable.

For these and other reasons, Anselm Society Director Brian Brown has made two announcements:

  • The Imagination Redeemed conference will take a sabbatical during 2023, Anselm Society's 10th anniversary year. Lord willing, we’ll revisit plans for a conference for 2024.

  • The Anselm Society will spend 2023 focused on smaller community gatherings that allow us to do life together more regularly and organically.

Please keep an eye out for an invitation to consider hosting or joining a small, informal Anselm event, perhaps starting with St. Patrick’s Day.
